Le printemps est arrivé / Spring is here

Quel temps merveilleux ! Quel beau soleil !

What wonderful weather ! What a pleasure to see the sun ! The temps are mild, the days are pleasant, it sure does make a great change from last year ! Needless to say that like a great number of my fellow gardeners, I've been spending a lot of time outside... there is a lot to do, and I wanted to get as much done as possible while the ground is still wet and workable, just coming out of winter. I did all I could and now, after a week without a single drop of rain, it is already getting difficult.

I had been working on another spot in the garden, but I need stones to fill some cages. So I decide to take these and start the new paved border. I think a bird bath or a big pot would look nice...

A while later, and with the more or less enthusiastic help of the girls, the corner is done.

I quickly tried to see how to handle the curve - and I set the container there, but put a square tile over it so it can be used as a stand for a little tray where birds can drink and have a bath.

This is what it looks like from above (my bedroom window, not heaven above). The rain was supposed to clean the stones, and finally it didn't rain. Drat. There are some parts of the garden that need raking, and if the clumps are all dried out, it won't do.
Avant / Before
Après / After

I don't know if the difference is obvious, but it sure felt good to clean up everything. Now this place is spotless, not a weed left, and there are some self-seeded poppies, too ! Between the moment I took the picture and now, new things have come up and daffodils have bloomed. Tonight I had to water because it was really dry, and I saw lots of other things getting ready.

With all this going on, I take out and use a lot of stuff that had been in the basement, so now it looks much bigger ; I pruned all my rosebush (I had to wrestle with "Castor" that had been left alone since I had planted it and it still had all the dead wood from the terrible winter two years ago - it was a tough and rough nightmare of intertwined twigs but I made it !) ; I prepped the pelargoniums, and went to Germany recently as well. A "The Fairy" rose hopped in my cart, as well as a "Crème de cassis" dahlia.
I started my indoor sowing - there are some tomatoes (black cherry, vilma and lupitas), some brocoli, cosmos I got from Camilla in the Seeds of Love and the sisyrinchiums Virginie sent me. Others to follow. Outside things are sprouting too but I didn't take any pics.
Well, so that's it for now, inside things are progressing as well, but you can't really tell because as soon as something is clean and tidy, life happens and it doesn't stay that way very long ! At all events, we take the time to play games and have fun and nice family time as well, and make the most of life. I hope it's the case for you too, and I hope to post again soon !

It has stopped raining here too and we have had some pleasant sun - although for the last few days we have had fog which is not so nice! I have been battling with the roses too and I have scratches all over my hands to prove it! I'm trying to work with FLYLADY but progress is slow! Lynne.

Your little corner with the stones and pavers looks charming. What a lot of work gardening can be. But so rewarding. Glad to hear that spring has arrived! It's here, too, although other parts of the country are still suffering with snow.
