All right, I messed up with the centring of the pictures, but I had already taken almost all my pictures when I met Andi, and her husband explained how to use the camera correctly ! I immediately followed his good advice and took a picture of him (he's protesting ! But I must show that there are men who come to Ste Marie too.
Bon... d'accord. Mais il perd quelque chose.
In fact he was not the only one, I saw lots of others who willingly came with their wives, who commented and were truly interested. Others, on the contrary, were waiting in a corner, were doing crosswords or had an expression on their faces that looked very much like boredom... I think that's what Jean would look like if I ever set my mind on taking him with me ; and yet I know that his artistic sensitivity would be appealed by some of the things displayed there. But he mumbles that he'd rather stay at home and read his paper. OK, all right. But he's missing out on something. Alma Allen : No Place like Home

At the Espace des Tisserands (the Weavers' Space) was Pascale Goldenberg, who spent a lot of time in Afghanistan and already had last year her embroidered squares that the women there made ; this year they were integrated in a textile work done by western women (I'll see if I can find a link so you can know more about this - and work on linking sites !) and there, on a corner of the table, this burka. Waow, it really made me feel uncomfortable to the utmost - almost physically ill. A woman next to me was saying that her daughter had tried it on and said it was oppressive and choking under there, and took it off very fast. I can't help but think of all these women who would like to do the same, but cannot.

No way I couldn't stop at the villa Burrus at Ste Croix aux Mines, to see their marvellous garden : they set up flower beds with plants as if it was a quilt block, it's really great ! But taking a picture is not easy, it should be done from above. But then the place is really pleasant, the gardeners very nice (well of course they are :) , and the plants tended with love...

I also met Michèle who had contacted me to propose a Miniquilt swap in April (we registered on France Patchwork for that). I said "OK, but I'm busy, how about making it and exchanging in Ste Marie ?" She agreed. On September 7th I get an e-mail saying "Miniquilt is ready as promised." OH MY ! I had kept postponing and then in the midst of the back-to-school humdrum I had forgotten that it was in a week ! So I threw my last energy in the battle and came up with this : Je comptais le quilter et le ramener fini, mais la vie s'en est mêlée.

I intended to quilt it and finish it, but life got in the way. So I took it along to show it to her - and she told me she had done hers the previous week... Here she is with the miniquilt, it's lovely, it will adorn my spot with all my plants, it'll be fine since there are lots of birds on it :

And to finish with, what I bought on Sunday. (it's terrible how money melt and evaporates at Ste Marie). I bought fabric anyway because it was only 6 euros a metre (the flowers on the green background) ; I only had ten euros left so I asked the nice salesman for an equel quantity of both fabrics for that price. And you know what ? he gave me a meter of each anyway (I saved 2 euros) ; isn't that absolutely nice ? I asked for his card and wanted to advertise him but I can't find it ! I just remember that on top of the card there was "Stitches", and that they were Germans, they were located near the entrance.

I went back to the Amish and bought a book to broaden my knowledge about them. I bought the one written by Jacques Légeret and as he was there, he signed it for me. We chatted a little and it was pleasant. I would like to attend one of his lectures in the years to come, but the surprises of my schedule at school make it hard to say if I am available or not. This year there were very interesting lectures but mainly at moments when I couldn't be there !

The piece of fabric, green with red dots that are lady bugs, was a kind gift from Marie whom I couldn't meet this year, too bad ! Many thanks to you Marie for that nice attention ! And many thanks to Nathalie (aka La Fée Pirouette, the quiltshop in my village) as well, for kindly being my intermediary more than once !

)t !

salut.

How lovely to live in Alsace and to be able to visit this exhibition! I have promised myself that I will get there one day! Lynne.
