Problems, problems...

Well, we have a computer in working order at week ends but I have to check how I can upload my pictures on it. There is an English keyboard without the accents and the keys are not in the same order I am used to and I must add quite some time for corrections.
Our computer works but is now totally outdated and our browser is never powerful enough for all the new updates and there are lots of things we don't have access to or can't do - or it takes a lot of time but finally never gets through !

Well, it will take me some time to come back to Blogland, things haven't been too great lately, I have had pains in my right arm and shoulder and big problems at work with a student in one of the most horrible class I have ever had to deal with (though I once had a class of 13 year olds in a "difficult neighborhood" that was comparable ; but these are 17 year olds, and none of them really has the "bad student" profile ; no social problems, average alsacian village background ; some of are just very dishonest and willing to be hurtful, mean and cheeky on purpose).
I have spent countless hours trying to solve this problem, seeing every person concerned at the administration, filling out forms and reports, calling parents, trying to solve this horrible problem - horrible because you litterally see the student put himself deliberately into trouble and provoking you, and even though you already had countless conversations with him where you show him that he's not "punishing" you by behaving like this, but harming himself because he won't hear anything and pushes things so far that you have to punish him - then he'll use this as an excuse to do it all over again because you are "happy to punish him and call his parents because that's what you are here for anyway : figuring out everyday how to annoy him" - end of quote.
For some people, and for me, the solutions are pretty obvious. But you have no idea how irritating it is when all you hear is "No, we are not allowed to..." It's really infuriating, but well, don't worry about me, I've been through worse things before and I know I'll survive. It's really a pain during the lesson, a while afterwards because they poured out so many negative vibes and feelings on you and started the same old vicious circle again - even if you don't want to be sucked in, you are with them for 55 minutes in a closed room and you MUST deal with it. Until now we got by with the head teacher who fortunately is helpful, and with some parents, but things are starting to get out of hand now. So this week everything will pretty much be made or broken : I'll battle to get what I feel is the best solution : eviction of the main leader from English classes - he'll go in detention instead do the work with a dictionary, and after summoning the parents of the subordinate troublemakers, and being cut off from their "source of power", they should be calming down a little.
Because until now the authorities haven't been willing to do much : the principal is nowhere to be seen, and his assistant refers me to the CPE in charge of all these classes, but he's never there or when he is he can only say "But we're not allowed to ..."
I'm not worried, I have resources, and the positive in my life outbalances far more that type of disadvantage : my husband is supportive, my daughters are adorable (though tiring), and I'm going to Slovakia on a 10 day holiday in two weeks. Thanks to my experience, I know that it's something very hurtful and painful on the moment, and that I have trouble sleeping well because I'll wake at 4 and think about it and can't get back to sleep, but that the negative feelings and vibes will wear off eventually.
Merci.
If you have a little time, think of me, send me positive thoughts, pray for me if you are a believer, and also pray for this student who is so stubborn and caught up in his negative behavior. Thank you.

I'm so sorry to read all this Carole...It must be terrible to face and deal with such a difficult teenager in class. I'll be thinking of you and sending you strength in thoughts.

Sorry to hear of your trials. On the subject of the arm/shoulder pain -- are you carrying a shoulder purse on your left side? That will sometimes cause shoulder/arm/hand pain on the opposite side.
I will pray for you and for your student.

What a challenge! I will think of you and pray that you can be helped in every way possible. I always wonder what leads children to the place they are in life. I know that a huge effect is what goes on at home. Hopefully things will work out for you. Take care and good to hear from you. I have the little heart that I won from you hanging in my craft room, and I think of you each time I see it. Have a great day. Julie
