Après 3 mois d'absence / After being gone for 3 months

It's high time I resumed my blogging !
But why have I been absent so long ? Well, I went on a vacation during the Easter holiday, for a whole 15 days, leaving husband and children at home, in spite of the protests and reproving frowning (how can you leave them for so long ? don't you feel guilty ? oh, I couldn't do such a thing... what, aren't you ashamed of leaving your children such a long time ? etc, etc.) that were sometimes ironic, but not always. But then was the time, and I had to seize a wonderful, unique opportunity.

And I was right to, because everybody benefited from it ! I came home relaxed and rejuvenated (even if I also took some extra weight back home !!!) and at home everybody was cool as well. I often called home to inquire about the girls and how things were going, and they were more preoccupied with talking to Petra than to their mom !
Well, who is Petra ?

She's a slovak student who spent the schoolyear in the highschool I teach in. There were two of them, and they spent the week at the boarding school ; it's closed at week-ends and they had to spend them in a host family and I volunteered for it. Petra spent all the week-ends from November to June at our place, and Alexandra stayed at a colleague's house and sometimes also came with us when my colleague had a seminar or conference and wasn't available. These two young girls were sweet, well behaved, willing to help, and the girls loved them. They went back home for the Christmas holidays, then Petra for each smaller holiday but not Alexandra, which was very hard for her and that's when I got the idea to take them home for Easter, and to take advantage of it to go back to Hungary and discover Slovakia.

So I had a well deserved holiday but the trouble was that I didn't correct any paper and couldn't take any advance whatsoever, I had to go back to school and catch up on everything day by day,
which is rather time-consuming. Then came the tests common to all the freshmen (?) at the end of May / beginning of June, and all the reports and booklets to fill, meetings, the whole shebang, and the garden (that Jean had tended rather well, but not as carefully as I would have), and then we had to leave for our vacation on 3 day's notice because the house was rented to other people partly during the time we wanted to be there and we left a little hurriedly - and now since we've been back it's been very rainy so I spend most of my day outside weeding, and the rest of the time remodelling Elise's room, well in short it all explains why we're very busy. And why as always I flutter here and there and I have the feeling that days have been really shortening lately.

Well, here is a medley of photos, o

Carole!

I have a photo of the very same passageway - the one with "hotel" written over the arch.

I was there just for an afternoon on June 10.
