Enfin une journée dehors / A day outside at last

All this grey, this mist, this cold, were starting to get very discouraging. And all of a sudden, in the middle of the day, a pale and shy ray of sun... that got bolder and bolder ! So after a meal and a nap I ran out, rake, hoe and clippers in hand. I started in zone 5, the one in the front of the house where there were nepeta to cut back, an old skeleton of a cosmos to get rid of, and some weeds to hoe at the foot of the rosebushes.

While I'm at it, I might just as well ask : on the right hand side of the picture you can see a green stretch overlapping the rocks : it is rockcress that blooms a wonderful purple color in spring. I plan to sow or transplant it all along the border, and I would like to double it with a mini-hedge to mark a limit with the shrubs. Something like 15 inches (30-40 cm), not too much maintenance, that would look neat without necessarily following strictly the gardener's line.Any ideas or suggestions, anyone ? I had though about euonymus, shrub cinquefoil, mini asters... nothing seems convincing. Maybe some other people with a different outlook will come up with something.

Such pleasure to rake and potter about... a lady walking by told me she would love to start too, but she felt it was still too cold. It's true there was a cold wind sometime but on the whole it was pleasant. And at the end of the day, taking a peek from the bedroom window. When the forsythia's buds will be about to bloom, I will prune the rosebush. I gave them some fertiliser while I was there.
L'arabette - fleurira bientôt / the wall rockcress about to bloom
This clump of echinacea was dug out last year, and just put there and forgotten. It spent all winter without any protection, and if you look very closely and don't mind the mountain buttercup (such a pest !) you can see little red buds ! I will plant it as soon as possible.
And to finish, a weird surprise...    I moved the big container in the back of the garden and saw this :
some rodent dug a tunnel ! I hope a fox or a cat will catch it and eat it, I feel a little disconcerted : I refuse to use any kind of poison in my garden. In the meantime, Laure who loves to play with dirt filled it all up again to get it to move elsewhere. Far away please.

So well, tomorrow school starts again, I'll try to find some time here and there to go on with yardwork, but on the whole I will be more in a state of apnea and less likely to find time for blogging. I'll try to do it the Flylady way : 15 minutes a day at least.
A bientôt !
See you soon !

How delightful to get out into the garden! We did the same thing this weekend, planting four fruit trees. It's still so muddy out there.

I have no advice for your border - but I'll look forward to seeing what you chose.

Bonne semaine!

I've been enjoying the garden (in between the Vent d'Autan) this week too - it's lovely to have some warmth again, isn't it? My sons are currently washing the car, appreciating the increased temperature, too! Thanks for your comments - there are an awful lot of words for cooker/stove/oven in English, too - funny that it's the same in French!
