On est en novembre / November has come

C'est dingue comme d'une année à l'autre les situations sont différentes : l'année dernière à cette époque il avait déjà neigé et je n'ai rien pu faire dans le jardin. Là il fait très doux et on a un vent chaud qui souffle depuis quelques jours.

Demain c'est le dernier jour avant la reprise : il faut fignoler les cours, finir les copies, mais on est tous plus reposés et prêts à affronter la période qui nous mène jusqu'à Noël ; ce n'est pas une période facile avec le changement d'heure et les jours qui raccourcissent, mais ce n'est pas la pire. Pour moi la plus éprouvante est janvier/février, quand toutes les lumières de Noël sont éteintes, que le printemps n'est pas encore là, se fait désirer et que l'on épuise ses dernières forces.

It's crazy how one year is different from another : this time last year we had had our first snow and I couldn't do anything in the garden. Now, this year, the weather is very mild and we've had a warm wind blowing for the last couple of days.

Tomorrow is the last day before school : we have to put the finishing touch to some little details, I must finish to correct my papers, but we have gotten some rest and are ready to face the period of time leading to Christmas ; it's not the easiest in the year, with the end of daylight saving time and days getting shorter, but it's not the worst - which is for me after Christmas, once its joy has faded in January/February, when spring is not here yet and we are longing for it to come but it's still cold and you feel your last strength diminishing.

Mais chaque chose en son temps : pour l'heure nous apprécions les promenades dans la forêt (on a ramené des bouts de bois pour y percer des trous et faire des maisons pour les insectes) et je peux encore profiter de quelques moments au jardin. J'ai fini de planter mes semis de campanules, pensées, myosotis, et je n'ai plus que quelques bulbes de perce-neiges et de tulipes à planter. Quelques plates-bandes à bêcher, du paillis à étendre pour l'hiver, et je pourrai rester au chaud, à faire ronronner la machine à coudre et rêver aux semis et plantations futurs.

But each in its own time : for now we make the most of walks in the forest (we brought back chunks of wood to drill and be used as a home for many insects) and I can still enjoy some moments in the garden. I'm done planting my campanula, johnny-jump-ups and forget-me-nots and all that's left is some tulips and snowdrops. Some flower beds to dig as well, winter mulch to spread, then I can enjoy the warmth of my home, sewing and enjoying to the machine humming and dreaming of the sowing and planting to come.

Sur ce, je vous souhaite à tous une bonne soirée et un bon dimanche. Je ne sais pas quand j'aurai de nouveau le temps de publier, comme le rythme fou de ma semaine va reprendre, mais la note d'espoir c'est que la maison est mieux rangée, au boulot mes classeurs ont été remis en ordre, tout se passera peut-être de manière plus fluide et j'aurai des instants à consacrer à mon blog ? Je l'espère en tout cas.

I don't know when I'll have the time to post again, as the frenzy of my weeks will resume, but here's a hopeful note : the house is tidied and in order, my files and binders at work have been sorted out and classified, so everything will go more smoothly and I'll have more time for my blog ? I hope so.
