Une journée bien remplie / A real busy day

Thanks to all of you who have left nice messages concerning our flooding, now the basement is dry and we've cleaned it thoroughly and this time we really got rid of all the clutter. (We had sorted things out and kept some thinking : this could be useful. Well it hadn't been since last year so out it went !)
Nobody really jumps for joy when something like this happens, but this time it wasn't so bad : it wasn't 9 pm, the basement had already been decluttered so it wasn't as long as the first time, and helpful neighbours came to lend us buckets and special brooms and some even helped us. The washing-machine and the heat system didn't suffer so we don't complain, and now the two garages are spotless, everything is swept and clean. More positive than negative aspects !

We've still been very busy and overwhelmed lately, but what fun we're having ! For the past few days I prepared some hand-made items for the lottery at the end-of-the-year school fest that took place this morning. Then we had to head for the market and do our grocery shopping (there was some patience lost at the end, it didn't help that I started feeling weary...), then off to buy a birthday present for one of Elise's classmate where she was invited this very same afternoon, then I went to see Jean to his school where they had their end-of-the-year fest and he introduced me to some parents of Hungarian origin, or who had worked there - so of course big conversation, man did I lose a lot of the language !! we're going to be invited very soon, great ! - and I didn't get to go home and have a rest as I had planned : there was a wedding in the church right next to the school, and a two-horse-carriage awaited the newly-weds ! Laure immediately wanted to go and see the horses, and well the bride as well - and then we saw there was a smaller carriage with two poneys ! She attempted a lot of approaches, she was rather shy because they were rather nervous, they were afraid of all the white balloons people were holding in the guard of honor (and afterwards they all let the balloons fly, it was nice !) ; she finally managed to touch one of the poneys, she was beaming ! and great joy for me : the poneys dropped two big heaps of dung. I fetched a plastic bag and picked it up, as a gift for my garden. I know it may seem disgusting, but it was one of the little blessings in my day !! It must have been a rather surprising sight, a lady picking up dung with a plastic bag, with a little girl hopping and shouting along " Yeah, yeah, we're picking up droppings from the little poneys !!"
We finally went home loaded with cakes and all sorts of leftovers, there were so many that I shared it around the neighborhood, mostly with the people who had helped us drain our basement. Then it was time to pick up Elise, and we hang around a little, with all the other parents, enjoying each other's company and also the sun, on their deck. It was a quiet time to recharge the batteries, and the kids were all playing so nicely together that we took advantage of it and we did well, because with so much activity throughout the day, there was bound to be some whining and weariness as the evening went by. But after a little relaxing bath, and lots of hugs, everybody is now in bed and fast asleep ! It was really a nice day, even if the pace was sometimes too fast. The girls had a lot of fun, we were all very happy to be all together tonight, the girls played very nicely in their bath and on the whole we all felt that peaceful and relaxed atmosphere, where we truly feel like a united and happy family and we enjoy being together, under our roof, with enough to eat and no financial or health problems. Life is good, and we have a lot to be thankful for.
In the days to come, I'll post a little summary in pictures (oh yes, I sure will, I promise !!). For now I'm going to slip in my bed as well, tomorrow we attend our goddaughter's first communion and then we'll have a meal at the restaurant. We'll probably be back only by the end of the afternoon. See you !

Julie a dit…

So sorry to hear about your flooding--that is NO fun. We've had that happen with our washer line breaking and flooding everywhere. I wanted to cry, but like you said, it does get cleaned up and everything works out. Hope you're having a good day. Julie
