... and I don't really know where to start ; the pictures above will trigger your interest until I tell you what it's about. Besides, our computer is being whimsical again... I remember making a lot of cakes lately, I have blocks and baby quilts to finish, the garden needs tending too, we were in Schoppenwihr with the girls... I got two awards that I'll have to put on my blog and I found out about new funtionalities on Blogger ; well, quite a bunch of things, I have to sort all this out. See you later !

So this is the friendship block I made for Jenny. I was supposed to give it to her some months ago, but it just couldn't get done ! In the club I attend, there is a monthly drawing and the "winner" chooses a block in our book of reference, states what colours she would like and can also provide fabric (here Jenny provided the background fabric) - all the members who are willing to sew the block (there's about 70 of us in the club) ; and when the friendship quilt is sewn together, that's what it can look like (from the exhibition in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines) and my block is - if I remember well - the fourth from the left, in the third row upwards.

Speaking of Sainte-Marie, here are the Hungarian marmelades my friends gave me. I'm sorry, I have no recipe, they are homemade from there - cherry, apricot and red currant. Delicious !!! I realise I haven't taken a picture of Zsuzsa's bag, or of the ceramic thimble... I will see to it. And as I was guiding them through the entire exhibition of our club, there was not enough space for all the things that had been produced, there was a huge trunk with folded quilts in it. We unfolded every single piece and Andi's husband took pics of everything - as I was holding the quilts I couldn't take any pictures of us.

And then there was Arthur's birthday. Going back up to the Bas-Rhin is always tiring because of the long way, but once there, when hiking in the forest, this is the type of landscape you can admire - the castle of Lichtenberg, perched high on its sandstone promontory.

Au détour d'un chemin, dans une partie déboisée, on a trouvé ces coulemelles géantes - Going off track, in a part where the trees had been cut down, we found these giant parasol mushrooms

- In a garden, these splendid asters were a delight for these butterflies - It reminded me that I hadn't seen that many near my butterfly bush this year ?

But of all places, my favorite is under that tree. There, the view is straight in the direction of the castle, and more than once have I come here to regenerate my spirit and find inner peace...

... on this bench, where I would sit and think, dream, and more generally spend long hours in the quiet of the woods. Something that would by no means harm me right now... It's all covered in moss now, it got older too, after all it's been about 25 years (what ?? how is that possible, it seems like yesterday...) that I haven't gone and sat down there. Sure, it wouldn't harm me at all to do so right now...

So here's another picture, the last one, just for the pleasure of it. It's weird, but I don't think I've ever found the same scenes and feelings in the forests here in the Haut-Rhin... or maybe I've gone to the wrong places, but here the forest seems dull... doesn't feel like a real forest. It doesn't give this feeling of dense and thick wide space, there's always a road or a field or a village nearby, and it's flat. Over there, it goes as far as the eye can see and little villages nestle at its feet, it's curvy, with its uphills and its downhills shapes ; it smells good, and abounds in wildlife. And going back there, made me understand why it's unique, why I like it so much and why I feel good in the village where I live now (I must tell you that coming from the Bas-Rhin, even if it's not my region of origin - living in the Haut-Rhin now feels like a little exile in a less prosperous land - whatever my friends here might say !) : it's located a little in altitude, it's surrounded by wooded hills - less wild, and thick and dense, but nevertheless similar. So you see... when I was young I used to think that it was stupid from my grandma, who was visiting my parents in Nice when I was born, didn't give a d... about the sea and wanted to go back to her forest ! I think I understand her feelings better now - even though I still think that if you live so far away from the sea, it's stupid not to make the most of it while you're there !

So, this was the "what we did before the holidays" part. Coming soon : "all the things we did to keep busy two charming but overexcited little girls and full of good intentions but who are very loud and won't leave their mom alone or be near anyone else, and come cuddling in the evening telling her they want to be with her !" - and why the previously mentioned mom suggested they spend a couple of days at their grandparents' place !

Now that i have taken time to read your post of your outing I just think it must have been breathtaking.

The bench, now covered with moss, where you once sat as a young person and dreamed away the hours really speaks to me. Time is passing and I wonder if I will get to see my young trees grow to become mature stately trees.

Beautiful pictures and so many nice things to read! I don't know when I'll have enough time to catch up with everything, but I'll do my best!
Have a lovely week Carole!
