Voici Bella.
This is Bella. We met her unexpectedly and she made me blow my grocery budget yesterday ! When I must pick up the girls at school, and we go for errands after that, we like to hang around in the supermarket a little, see the magazines, what's new, the toys, etc. I must say that they are - generally - adorable from this point of view, they sometimes ask "Mom, can you buy me this (a gadget that they saw and they find *too cool*), but as I'm not a big fan of unbridled consumption, I always say no and they never really insist. When they've been real good they can get a Bella Sara horses magazine (you see where the name of the horse comes from ?), that they really love, and they're happy.

But here, it was a big stuffed winged horse, a little more expensive than the usual magazine... and since it's been a while that we've changed our consuming habits, that we don't buy useless stuff anymore - not to mention the fact that they have a ton of toys already and we emptied another ton out of their room during the big summer cleaning...

But Laure seemed to be so enchanted, she stroke this horse so lovingly, she talked to her, she hugged her all the time we did our grocery shopping... so I told her we'd buy it, but ! we would ask her Grandma to give it to her as a Christmas gift. She would have to wait another 65 days - she had asked how much more time exactly until Christmas, and we counted on the calendar - and she was not that pleased, but between not getting it at all and waiting 65 days, she chose to wait !

Elise seemed enchanted as well, and they started to play and invent stories in the store. They got the permission to play with the horse all evening, and they really had a lot of fun ! They made her paper food (carrots, apples, grass, and even a fish !) and a paper manger, and Laure slept with her in her bed. She did not fuss when it was time to put Bella on her shelf, to wait for Christmas and the moment when she'll get it back. We put her paper food next to her so that she would not starve and she will see the girls for a quick hug every now and then.

Oh that is so sweet - not just the horse, but your daughters' imaginary play with it. It brings back the times when my children played like that.
And kudos to you for helping them to see that waiting for something that is really wanted is a good thing, not a bad thing.
Lorrie
