Today, let's tour the house and randomly stop in front of ... the shelf in the living room with its display of ceramics brought back from Hungary (the small blue pot and the big white flowered jug), Slovakia (the big blue and white ones come from Modra), or from our holidays in Annecy (the brown jug and the dish with the bird). I love ceramics, and whenever we are on holidays we always bring back some "for the house" ; I also like vases, glasses and jars for their transparency and the highlights of the sun shining through them. The little characters are made out of corn leaves are presents from Petra - especially chosen because they represent things that we did together : every Friday when we came back from the school we went to buy a "brioche" (sort of large braided bun for the next day's breakfast), or eggs, sometimes meat or sausages (depending on the seasonal products available) in our village's farm. Well here the dad is carrying a "brioche", there are two little girls and a mom !

In my sewing corner, a little hand project that I take to my club in Ferrette and on which I work when I have a few minutes. What's more it's one of my UFOs that I intend to finish and exhibit for the next club event. The little squares are 1"1/4 and it will be a mini of 4 X 6 blocks. Only 17 more to go !

In the kitchen, the yoghurts that we made yesterday evening are ready ! I read on my favourite recipe site, Marmiton, a comment of somebody who said she flavored them with orange blossom. So I tried it, and we'll see how they turned out after lunch.

Yum, a cake ! It's the chocolate cake that we make very ofter, and this time instead of using grounded almonds, we used haselnuts. It's even better ! (well, except for Elise who thinks that it's better with the almonds...)
One of these days when I have found a good conversion site, I will give you the recipe (no, I haven't forgotten about the scones, this is also coming up !)

And this is my "dream book", in which I glued all the images and cut-outs from magazines that have inspired me over the years. I had tons of them, so I sorted them all out and kept only what I really liked and might be really doable if I wanted to redecorate the whole house one day (well, in fact I do want to redecorate already, so I'd rather say "for the day when I redecorate the whole house" !!)

Yes, you can see ceramics ! And whicker, wood, pale colors, a simple and natural style.

Glass, flowers, branches, and ideas for the garden as well.

Ideas for curtains. I have mismatched ones on each window, for now we reuse things from our previous apartment or that we got from here or there. This summer, when we were at Martina's in Slovakia, she was in the process of putting up matching curtains in each room (they've been living in their house for about 5 years, like us). I found that it "tied" the room together and I thought it would be about time I took care of it. For the time being I let it all "brew" in my head.
Well, this is all good and fine, but I still have a lot of things to do. These two last days I felt pretty tired after all that work in the garden, so I took my time and this is when I did my book with all my cut-outs - I also have an "inspiration book" for crafts, and I sorted out a lot of patterns, etc. I had a lot of stuff that the girls cut out and colored, they were delighted, we all sat at the kitchen table and we played school at the same time, it was a lovely afternoon filled with make-belief games, laughters, projects and imagination. Now we have 3 days left, I must get everything ready for my students and corrections to finish, I'd rather do other things, but it has to be done !

You have had a busy and productive break so far. Your garden looks lovely and all your hard work will show off the flowers beautifully in spring. Cake and yogurt and crafting with the girls - it sounds like you are really having a wonderful time together.
I hope the remaining three days will find you rested and ready for school to begin again.
Lorrie
