Evolution du jardin : Zone 1bis / Evolution of zone 1 in my garden - a second time

It hasn't been very easy lately : tons of things to do, some colleagues are losing it (always the same), the sun is still hiding I don't know where so we ended up buying magnesium and vitamins at this time of the year - normally we stop using them in spring ! One colleague had told me "we can see the light at the end of the tunnel !" and it's true that this is how it used to be, back from the February holidays, the atmosphere changed, but now it's just one deadline after another, no break when a task is completed, there is another one coming right up and we feel that it's never going to end... and those who always complain take the occasion to blame the colleagues who "let it all happen". I was very pleased to learn, that no way could I be overwhelmed because I have the time to organise a trip, and everything that is happening is more or less my fault because last year she had told me it would be like this and nobody would listen to her. Well, I won't bother you with details about work and our ups and downs between colleagues - when I get home I take a break and deal with other things. The garden namely.

As it's really gloomy and cold, I progress slowly and do some little things (rid the lady's mantle of the buttercups, started the dahlia tubers in pots, keep "winter"sowing and store them outside).

So I'm going to go on with my tour of the garden, and the changes it underwent in the last 7 years. The second part of zone 1 goes from the little parking place to the front door. At first there was to be a little stone garden, but I quickly realised that weeding the clay between the stones was a pain !
In 2006 I had flowers from a seed packet mixture and I had bought dwarf snapdragons in a garden center. They have re-seeded ever since.
Mars 2007
Some sweet williams given by my neighbour and some daffodils given by my mother (but half of them never bloomed).

A neighbour had given me the snow-in-summer, I spent a lot of time in nurseries and brought home lots of things and I had sown some white musk mallow - from a free seed packet in a magazine. They were gorgeous, you can see them at the back, the two white spots. Last year a clump reappeared at the back of the house ! (the ants ?) I'm sowing some again this year.

printemps 2010 - spring 2010
The rosebush multiflora nana has settled - he's more or less squashing a purple weigelia that will be transplanted for the umpteenth time, this one has never really found its place.
Juin 2010 - June 2010

Here it is litterally weighing down under all the blooms. It suffered badly from last year's terrible winter (I had declared it dead), was neglected last year, and a few days ago, while I was weeding, I saw that it has layered itself ! So I have a baby rosebush, I think my neighbour will be happy to receive it, she had admired it and thinks it smells good (As for me, I don't think I ever smelled the faintest fragrance).
Avril 2001 - April 2001

Spring 2011, things get out of hand. Everything reseeds in the gravel, the weeds invade everything and it's a general catastrophe.
May 2011
In hindsight, it looks nice and wild from afar, but it was not at all what I had in mind for this spot.
Octobre 2011
Le réaménagement commence.   The remodelling starts.
Avril 2012
The old and rotten wood border has been dug out and thrown away, out with the huge stones too, I bring soil from the other side of the garden to level up everything.
Janvier 2013 - January 2013
And there you are, between two snowfalls, this spot is ready to be replanted. I had already divided sedums that will make a nice border, and some snapdragons that have survived the winter will be brought together to form a nice clump, the dwarf deutzia also re-layered itself and the baby was moved, and I still have to weed the part in front of the door - which is difficult because it's still clay. This autumn we'll garnish the place with clumps of flowering bulbs, and this summer there should be a lot of flowers from all the winter sowing.

It's looking very nice, Carole. What a lot of work you've put into your garden. The little rosebush is beautiful and must like the situation since it's making smaller plants.
